Anyone Feeling Closure After the Death of Kelly Gissendaner?
by Andre Johnson
If Kelly Gissendaner, a white woman who had been a model prisoner, had 90,000 folks sign a petition asking Gov. Deal to halt her execution, had a letter of support from the Pope, had shown great remorse, and who had sang Amazing Grace as she was led to death — if this woman could not garner sympathy from the state or Georgia, or a majority of Christians, then we who work for the eradication of the death penalty surely have a steep uphill battle ahead of us.

The Matrix, the Gospel, and the U.S. Congress
by Nadia Bolz-Weber
When I heard that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was preached at a joint session of Congress one day, and the next day the Speaker of the House resigned, I had to wonder if it wasn't actually due to political expediency at all, but due to repentance, as though an axe removed from the Speaker what he was so attached to, so that he might have life.

Doing Good, Becoming Evil: The Pope, Elijah, and Moses
by Suzanne Ross
The Pope's call to be alert to different types of fundamentalism struck me as the message America needs to hear. We often forget that fundamentalism can appear in economic, political or ideological garb. It can be as secular or political as it is religious, but it is within religion that we find deep resources for understanding and combatting fundamentalism in all its dizzying variety.

As people whose own ancestors came to this land fleeing poverty, hunger, political and religious oppression, prejudice, and war. Let us instead be inspired by hope and the possibilities for a better future that we can help to offer to those immigrants and refugees who seek our shores.

Jesus Wasn't a Radical
by David Henson
What if Jesus wasn't really that radical at all? What if love of neighbor isn't radical? What if the call to share both wealth and food isn't radical? What if it's everything else that's actually radical? Think about it.

Gifts of the Dark Wood: Why Hell Isn't Scary and Failure's A Blessing
by Christian Piatt
In my interview with the Rev. Eric Elnes about his new book, Gifts of the Dark Wood, he offers some surprising – and some might say controversial — insights, like why we don't need to fear hell, why we need failure, and why getting lost is a necessary part of our spiritual growth.
